The key equity indices traded with decent gains in morning trade. The Nifty traded above the 19,550 level. Pharma shares gained after declining in the past trading session. At 10:30 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 167.87 points or 0.26% to 65,676.19. The Nifty 50 index rose 62.70 points or 0.32% to 19,586.25. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index gained 0.93% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.35%. The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,166 shares rose and 1,045 shares fell. A total of 181 shares were unchanged. Buzzing Index: The Nifty PSU Bank index advanced 1.62% to 15,267.25. The index declined 0.90% in the past trading session. Aurobindo Pharma (up 5.91%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (up 3.69%), Glaxosmithkline Pharmaceuticals (up 2.05%), Laurus Labs (up 2.02%), Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 1.85%), Granules India (up 1.54%), Gland Pharma (up 1.5%), Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 1.26%), Cipla (up 1.19%) and Lupin (up 1.17%) edged higher. Stocks in Spotlight: KIOCL declined 3.16% after the company announced that it has temporarily suspended its operations at Mangalore pellet plant from 28 September 2023. SBI Life Insurance Company added 0.59%. The life insurer announced the appointment of Amit Jhingran as new managing director and CEO, following the transfer of the existing MD and CEO, Mahesh Kumar Sharma, to a post at State Bank of India. Multi Commodity Exchange of India slumped 8.26% after the company informed that market regulator SEBI has advised the Exchange to keep the proposed Go-Live of Commodity Derivatives Platform (CDP) in abeyance.
