The key equity barometers traded with marginal gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 24381-24300. Nifty Auto, Nifty Media and Nifty Pharma shares advanced, while Nifty IT and Nifty FMCG shares retreated.
NIFTY edged up 0.24% in last session and climbed 1.89% over last one-week.
At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 161.71 points or 0.21% to 78,089.86. The Nifty 50 index edged higher by 54.75 points or 0.23% to 24,371.90.
The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index moved higher by 0.49% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index posted modest gains of 0.76%.
The market breadth was favorable. On the BSE, 3024 shares gained and 1638 shares declined. A total of 229 shares were unchanged.
Nifty Auto index gained 1.89% to 28814. The index has risen 6.79% in last one month and recorded robust gains of 19.09% over last one year. M & M, adding 4.76%, led the gainers followed by Ashok Leyland, edging up 4.30% and Samvardh. Mothe., gaining 3.24%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 12 are reporting gains today.
Nifty Media index rallied 1.80% to 1614. The index has climbed 7.24% in last one month and edged lower by 2.42% over last one year. Nazara Technolo., climbing 7.13%, led the gainers followed by Zee Entertainmen, inching higher 3.83% and Saregama India, up 0.53%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 5 are reporting gains today.
Nifty IT index declined 1.22%. The index has surged 18.61% in last one month and fell 12.08% over last one year. TCS, edging lower 2.08%, led the loosers followed by LTM, easing 1.75% and Infosys, down 1.68%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting loss today.
Asian markets posted sharp gains on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is higher by 0.82%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is down 0.11%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is firmly higher by 4.03%.
In Europe, German DAX moved up 0.14%, UK’s FTSE 100 edged lower 0.10% and French CAC inched higher 0.92%.
In Commodities, MCX Gold moved down 0.53% to trade at Rs 1,43,299 per 10 grams. MCX Crude oil posted steep losses of 2.57% to trade at Rs 8,041 per barrel.
