Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.07 points lower, suggesting a muted to negative start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market declined in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly lower.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 5.81% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has drifted lower 5.77% over the same period.
In Asia today, sentiment was soft. China’s SSE Composite Index posted modest losses of 0.17% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 edged lower 0.87%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index drifted lower 0.62%.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 5,353 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 5,189 crore in the Indian equity market on 28 September 2026, provisional data showed.
Overnight on Wall Street, stocks slipped across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended lower by 347.11 points, or 0.67%, and closed at 51502.51. The S&P 500 slipped 0.18% to end at 7745, and the NASDAQ Composite drifted lower 0.91% to 26843.76.
Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex eased 1124.02 points or 1.52% to 72771.72. The Nifty 50 index slipped 360.25 points or 1.56% to 22780.25. Dr Reddys Laboratories Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, posting modest gains of 1.67% to Rs 1221. The stock has edged up around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.
In sectoral indices, only Nifty IT index edged lower yesterday, losing 0.26% on the day.
